Gender health equity over the life course: Identifying and overcoming the barriers women face in accessing health systems in low-resource settings
The Taskforce on Women and Non-Communicable Diseases are hosting a side-event at the Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research under the theme of 'Leaving no one behind: health systems that deliver for all'. Evidence shows that there are differences in how women and men experience disease and other health issues, and in how they access and are treated by health systems. It is essential that we establish a better understanding of these differences and the barriers women face in accessing the care they need, especially in low-resource settings.
This interactive session is designed to facilitate discussion around effective solutions for health systems that deliver for all. Participants can expect a showcase of findings from programmes and research in Africa and Asia that seek to address gaps in women's access to health services for non-communicable diseases throughout the life course. Case studies covering early childhood, adolescence, reproductive and older women's health will highlight how data, technology and innovative collaborations can support gender-equitable healthcare.
The session will be moderated by Jill Keesbury of Management Systems for Health. Contributors include:
